I grew up in a crazy strict household. My parents considered themselves to be "fundamental, Bible-believing, independent Baptist." Now, don't confuse this type of Baptist with the heathen southern Baptists. They belong to a convention...that = bad! I was fed that most of my life. I was not allowed to wear pants (culottes for me please!). Let me tell you, this does not make you the cool kid in school. We had to mute the TV. at commercials because we may hear "questionable music." Basically, we led about the most sheltered life possible. You know you are sheltered when the coolest thing to you is Patch the Pirate. Most of you do not know who Patch is, but we had ALL of his tapes! I was even a sailor in the Patch the Pirate Club. How cool is that?? Brian T. calls it "Barney for Baptists." The music and the stories are so ridiculously cheesy. As you gathered, it is about a pirate who commands a ship called the Jolly Roger. His original crew consisted of peewee, pixie, peanut, and sissy. It grew as time went by to give us such characters as Wally the Whale and so on. I can tell by the look on your face while you read this that you care so much. All I really want to do is to leave you with some bits and pieces of songs.We will start off with the wiggle worm...

Speaking of "Oh, she's going to straddle me." I woke up at three in the morning today, and just started laughing my head off about it. My wife probably didn't appreciate it too much, but I thought about it and just could not get rid of the giggles. It was very accomodating of you, Rose, to demonstrate how the sled team straddled each with poor, defenseless and unsuspecting Angela, rather than just verbally answer my question.
By the way, it takes a very confident man to admit he got an attack of the giggles.
I understand what culottes are. I had always called them skorts. Or are skorts something else entirely?

I too grew up in a FB home complete with Patch the Pirate. I'm 23 and still like the songs. I'm also thankful that my folks cared enough to shelter me, although I didn't think that between 15 - 20.
God renewed my mind and heart after I repented and surrendered my will to Him. His word is cleansing.

I also grew up in a Christian home. I didn't have all the Patch the Pirate tapes, but we did have the "Kidnapped on I-land" one. I remember the "rember your manners song".
I am glad that my parents provided me a nurturing environment with songs that reinforced biblical principles and correctly directed my growth with God. Now I can pass my rich Christian heritage to my children.

quite a post here. To whomever... yes there is a difference between skorts and coulotts. Original coulotts were much worse than the trendy skorts of today.
Rose, I too, know Patch. It wasn't until I went to college that I realized all the world didn't know who this great hero of mine was.... unbelievable! I think I've some how still turned out okay though.
Hey, I grew up kind of like that with a full set of Patch tapes. The whole family loved them. And, by the way, I still wear culotts-- they are useful for working with kids- I'm a teacher.
I found the world wanted me to think like it and spurn the Bible and following Christ. The 'friends' I know who did so are bitter folks, as they reject God's truth. Sad. So, enjoy those patch the pirate tapes you can still get from Majesty Music. They are great for kids of all ages. - Marti

I actually loved the "cheesy" songs and stories... anyway, I briefly mention the song "remeber you manners because it is right, remember your manners it's a christians delight... i clean my plate, i clean my plate, I thank my mother for the food i ate... would you happen to remember the rest of that song? I would like to teach it to my five yr. old daughter. I have googled and searched High and low.... can you help me?
Im wondering about this music as well and typed in the words 'i clean my plate, i clean my plate'. other songs i recall include one about skin; im so glad that ive got skin, it keeps me safe from weather and it keeps me altogether.
